About A2

What is A2 milk

Confused about the difference between A2 milk and lactose-free milk? You’re not the only one! Find out what A2 milk really is and why it’s so good for you.

To put it simply, A2 milk is natural dairy milk that doesn’t contain any A1 beta-casein protein. Conventional milk, on the other hand, contains both A1 and A2 beta-casein, but usually has more A1 than A2 beta-casein. Many people prefer A2 milk because they find it easier to digest.

What’s the difference between A2 milk and conventional milk?

It all comes down to one tiny little amino acid.
If you look at a glass of milk, beta-casein is the second most abundant protein, making up to 30% of the total protein in milk. Beta-casein is a key carrier of essential minerals and nutrients that support muscle and bone development.

A1 and A2 are the two major variants of beta-casein. A1 beta-casein is slightly larger than A2 beta-casein and produces certain peptides during digestion. Some studies suggest that these peptides may cause discomfort for some people.

What are the benefits of A2 milk?

There’s a lot of research exploring the potential health benefits of drinking A2 milk.

Studies suggest that the smaller size of the A2 protein may make A2 milk easier to digest and help the body absorb the naturally occurring nutrients in milk more efficiently. This, in turn, supports stronger bones and a healthier immune system—making it an excellent choice for families seeking healthier dairy options.

Is A2 milk good for people who are lactose intolerant?

Some people believe that A2 milk is suitable for those who are lactose intolerant, but this is a common misconception. Many individuals who experience discomfort after drinking regular milk assume they are lactose intolerant, but in reality, they may have difficulty digesting or may be intolerant to the A1 protein.

For these individuals, A2 milk can be a great alternative!
